Fashion student to the finals in EcoChic Design Award

Amanda Borgfors Mészàros made it to the finals of the international competition EcoChic Design Award in May. On September 7th, she is competing with her sustainable collection in Hong Kong. Watch the finals via livestream on Facebook.

"It's incredibly exciting to show my sustainable collection in Hong Kong, which is a new forum for me", says Amanda.

Zero-waste and up-cycling

The task was to create a collection with minimal textile waste and in her new collection Global Nomad, she has worked with several perspectives on sustainable fashion. The techniques she has used are zero-waste and up-cycling of among other things, curtains.

"It was important to think sustainable in terms of easy-to-use design, as I want the user to be able to combine the collection in different ways depending on the situation. At first sight, the collection and most of the garnments look advanced, but that's a conscious design choice since the garnments and techniques actually are surprisingly simple in principal. That's also a way to work with sustainable and exciting design," says Amanda.

Ten finalists from across the world

Amanda is the only finalist from Sweden. The other finalists are from Japan, the Philippines, Indonesia, Taiwan, Israel, the Netherlands, the UK and the US.

Amanda is currently studying her third year at the BA course in Fashion at Beckmans. Global Nomad is her second collection.

The finals take place on Thursday September 7th and is livestreamed on Facebook at 11 AM  (Stockholms-time, 10 AM London, 5 PM Hong Kong).
