Sustainable creativity at Beckmans
Beckmans College of Design works towards ecological, social and economic sustainability.
The world's population is growing and resources are to be shared by more and more people. Therefore, the need for new design solutions becomes all the more urgent, and the sustainability aspect is necessary in every project that aims to find new solutions for the future.
Designers' ability to influence is central
Within the school's design disciplines - product design, fashion and visual communication - the work is constantly focused on creative solutions, designs and ways of communicating. An important task and driving force for the designer is to contribute to a more humane, more inclusive and sustainable world.
The designer's ability to influence is central to the education of tomorrow's creators. Everything from materials and processes to packaging and use belong to what a designer has significant influence over. Both innovative prototypes and small changes in large production volumes can result in decisive consequences for sustainability. Therefore, Beckmans College of Design's task is to constantly develop the education so that it is at the forefront.
Sustainability goals integrated into quality assurance systems
Beckmans works project-oriented and a central concept for the business is authenticity: projects that the students carry out during the academic years are in real and close contact and collaboration with industries and organizations. The pedagogy is based on the studio system and authenticity is the core of sustainability work and its great strength. The sustainability goals are integrated into the quality assurance system of the college.
Beckmans College of Design also actively works to limit the climate impact and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. This is done both through clear sustainability criteria in the education courses, and in the daily activities at the college's premises, where both the college's staff and students participate.
