Once I was a Princess
For this collection, I explored my childhood, to find where my interest in fashion started. That was a time when we were encouraged to live in the present, to pursue our curiosity and affirm our playfulness and creativity. What captivates me about studying childhood years is that adult life leaves little or no space for strong emotional expression, playfulness or unbounded creativity. Our free childhood selves have slowly been marginalised in favour of conventions and notions of how we ought to live. Therefore, it feels utterly relevant and meaningful to use my graduation work – which can often be perceived as a manifestation of a creative identity – to affirm and enhance the rare parts of me that continue to be that little princess.
