Think A Bed

27 Nov, 2007 | Sofia Hulting | 0 Comments

A bed is a place for rest, social relations, and major decisions. But why do all beds look the same? This was the prelude to the bed manufacturer Lectus’ collaboration with Beckmans College of Design.

Last autumn, the students in Product Design 3 were asked to challenge the bed’s traditional design. The students were given the opportunity to study bed manufacturing at Lectus for a couple of weeks, and this resulted in beds with high technological level and several ideas with high practicability. And who wouldn’t want to go to bed in an oasis, green as grass with a summer sky to look up on? Or fall a sleep in a bed that is suggestive of the rising dough, with a bedspread fastened at the foot of the bed like a role, like a croissant ready to be baked out? Or, why can’t you buy a bed with built-in lamps that allows you to wake up to the sun’s rays? Or a bed that is ”future safe”, that is a bed that can easily be adjusted if the single suddenly meets a partner who moves in?

The result was shown to the public in the exhibition Think A Bed at the Stockholm Furniture Fair 2007. Now Lectus has also decided to manufacture four of the students’ beds: Jens Boldt, Joel Hesselgren, Marcia Harvey Isaksson and David Wahl will see their beds in production.
