Stop the street violence!

4 Dec, 2007 | Sofia Hulting | 0 Comments

On Wednesday, December 5, an introductury meeting will be held at Beckmans College of Design in collaboration with the Stockholm City Theatre. Theatre, discussions and short lectures about the reasons behind the violence and its consequences, will be held.

Two months have soon passed since the violent assault that led to the tragic death of a 16 year old boy at Kungsholmen. It was an awakening that triggered a manifestation against the street violence and gathered 10,000 participants in Kungsträdgården. Passivity is the biggest danger when it comes to the increased streeet violence. To wait until it happens to a close friend or relative, or even to you. With commitment and new ideas we can join efforts and become a force against the violence. And all forces are needed.

The evening at Beckmans is a start of the debate and event that will take place on February 10 2008 at the Stockholm City Theatre. In the course of the evening we will listen to Tiit Mathiesen, neurosurgeon and professor at the Karolinska University Hospital who will speak about the consequences of violence. We will also see a sample from the play ”Topboy” written by Ulf Stenberg, Emil Rosén, and Birgitta Ingras, and have the opportunity to participate in a discussion with Martin Forster, researcher/psychologist at Uppsala University. The purpose of the evening is to raise money to develop the play and short films that the students at Beckmans are going to produce.

Initiators are: Anton Abele, students, Stop the Street Violence, Gunnar Abele, oral surgeant, Stop the Street Violence; Tom Hedqvist, principal Beckmans College of Design, Olé Forsberg, artistic leader, Klara Soppteater/Stockholm City Theatre, Benny Fredriksson, theatre manager, Stockholm City Theatre and Maria Edholm-Charmi, project manager Klara Soppteater/Stockholm City Theatre.
