Scholarship awarded to Beckmans alumni Helena Hörstedt

19 Aug, 2008 | Sofia Hulting | 0 Comments

Helena Hörstedt, who graduated from Beckmans' Fashion Programme in 2004, has been awarded the scholarship Young Craftsmen of SEK100,000 by Bengt Julin's Fund/Friends of the National Museum.

Since her graduation, Helena Hörstedt has become famous for her hand-tailored, black clothes in which details and structures play an important role. Her sixth collection, Broken Shadow, will be launched this autumn.

The scholarship Young Craftsmen has been awarded every other year since 2001 and was initiated by Bengt Julin. The scholarship awards promising craftsmen, below the age of 35 and who are based in Sweden. This year's scholarship ceremony will be held at  Nationalmuseum on September 8. After the ceremony, Helena Hörstedt will take part in an open discussion with Cilla Robach, curator at Nationalmuseum. In addition, Maria Ben Saad, senior lecturer in fashion theory at Beckmans, will talk about the young Swedish fashion scene, and Elisabet Avén Yanagisawa, senior lecturer in fashion/costume at the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design (Konstfack ) will talk about the textile process.
