A number of scholarships were granted on the last day of term.

Advertising & graphic design:
Lowe Brindfors’ scholarship was granted to Axel von Friesen and Petter Törnqvist, both in Advertising & graphic design 3. The motivation reads: ”Your work has an almost overwhelming flow of thoughts and ideas, which in turn breed new thoughts and ideas in the viewer. The advertising industry suddenly feels pretty paltry. This is how we want it to be! Therefore, it is self-explanatory why we give the Brindfors-scholarship 2007 to Petter Törnqvist and Axel von Friesen. Congratulations!”

Stefan Skogh’s scholarship was granted to Marika Vaccino Andersson, Advertising & graphic design 3, for her graduation project Through different lenses – a photography project about visual perception disorders, in which she let ten photographers portray visual abnormalities. The motivation reads: ”To be able to hold ten individualists on the track and carry through a project without straying from the sharp-sighted and interesting basic idea. In other words, pure Art Direction.”

Nunni and Anders Beckmans’ scholarship was granted to the graphic profile and concept of the graduation exhibition. Susanne Beckman granted the scholarship to Julia Stenius, Daniel Mencák, and Erik Hedman in Advertising & graphic design 3, and to Henrik Frej, Filip Svensson and Julia Lundgren in Product Design 3 with the motivation: ”The invitation to the school’s exhibition and fashion show immediatly announced that this was going to be good. The envelope’s exquisite indentation in one corner, which created a small secretive black figure, already in the street gave a joyous and welcoming experience which later continued in Berzelii Park in a constructive three-dimensional and manifold form, and which turned out to give a uniting graphic tightness to everyone’s different creative ideas and expressions. It was so beautifully and consequently carried out in poster, catalogue, and exhibition design.”

Product Design:
The Kosta Boda Scholarship was granted to Marcia Harvey Isaksson in Product Design 2 for her collection Tartan. The motivation reads: ”In your tribute to summer, you’ve produced products for the laid table with a very strong, personal and clear elegance. You’ve showed great ability for taking in a brief and to create a personal interpretation from it.” The collection will be realized as prototypes at Kosta during the autumn, and will possibly be launched in Kosta Boda’s ordinary collection.

The IKEA Scholarship 2007 was granted to Fredrik Paulsen in Product Design 3. The scholarship includes SEK60,000, free apartment and work from September 2007 to June 2008. As graduation project, Fredrik Paulsen started a web forum for furniture design with the purpose of inviting a freer discussion on design, copyright and the environment. Therefore, IKEA’s motivation reads: ”With an interest beyond the product, Fredrik has approached an interesting topic.”

”One more scholarship” is the scholarship of the former teachers of Product Design, Matti Klenell and Peter Andersson, and it was granted to Caroline Wetterling in Product Design 3 with the motivation: ”For a personal exploration of form in relation to room.”

Fashion:
The Swedish Fashion Council’s scholarship was granted to Lisa Billvik, in Fashion 3, with the motivation: ”Portable? We sometimes view creations that touch upon art. An enhanced design expression. The time at college is a period when creativity is not only encouraged, but is also allowed to flow freely. To create strictly commercially doesn’t need to be a goal in itself. We were caught by a collection that touches upon the surreal. Elements of distorted proportions beyond the borders of the clothes and that tickle the imagination. What is hidden under the padding? The finishing touch – a fantastic series of illustrations that well stresses the idea with the collection.”

H&M distributed four prizes to four students, all in Fashion 3. First prize was awarded to Nicole Janota and Sofia-Li Gustafsson.
The motivation for Nicole reads: ”For a playful, elegant collection that is very striking on the catwalk. Classical concepts that have been reworked and developed into a collection full of contrasts and personality and with exciting material and patterns.”
The motivation for Sofia-Li reads: ”A well-worked men’s collection, perfectly styled with matching shoes. The fine totality is strenghtened by well-worked details and a creative and skilled coordination. The style is masculine in a sensitive way, characterized by the craftmanship.”
Second prize was awarded to Emma Borgström and David Wiksten.
The motivation for Emma reads: ”Emma has worked in a modern and creative way with the recycling of things that have thus gained a new value. The style is young, brave, and mischievious in an aesthetically appealing way. An extra credit for the sense of futurism that feels present in the current fashion scene.”
The motivation for David reads: ”A fun and smart collection on a masculine theme that works excellently both commercially and as a concept. Modern silhouetts and really good serviceable clothes. A clear theme that is fulfilled all the way, and a lot of joy in the expression.”
With his graduation collection Turbo, David Wiksten has also been selected to the Mittelmoda Fashion Award in Gorizia, Italy. The contest takes place for the 15th time and is one of the absolutely foremost international contests for newly-fledged fashion designers. The winner will be announced on September 15…..

Finally, the Principal’s scholarship was granted to Emma Borgström, Nicole Janota, both Fashion 3, and Sahara Widoff, Product Design 3, who were responsible for the fashion show at Berns. The motivation reads: ”Beckmans’ fashion show at Berns’ legendary premises, broke a tradition and gave a radical renewal. The project was guided through with conviction and success by a project group that will be remembered in the college’s history.”
