Beckmans at Gallery K1

28 Feb, 2008 | Sofia Hulting | 0 Comments

Beckmans will have the use of Gallery K1 at the ground floor of Kulturhuset in Stockholm during the spring. In the first exhibition, March 4th to April 4th, the students in Fashion 2 will exhibit knitwear.

During Sthlm Fashion Week by Berns in January 2008, twelve Fashion 2 students showed one knitted collection each. At Gallery K1, we're also exhibiting a video, produced by Bon Magazine, from the show at Berns.

Knitwear is an important course in the second-year curriculum and the focus on knitwear permeates the history of the school. Katja Geiger, one of the school's earliest fashion student, went on to an international career in the 1960's and 70's as Katja of Sweden, famous for her soft jersey garnments and expressively patterned cardigans. Topical Sandra Backlund, who graduated in 2004, was awarded at the prestigious Festival d'Hyères 2007 for her recognised experimental knitting.

The tuition leading up to the show has included draping, sewing, knitting, fashion theory and how to design a conceptual collection for a specific chosen target group. Together with the fashion students, the second-year students in Advertising and graphic design have worked on the graphic presentation and fashion photograhy in connection with the collections.
