Exhibition: Apartamento Magazine, Beckmans College of Design and Konstfack

24 Nov, 2011 | Sofia Hulting | 0 Comments

Apartamento Magazine has been invited to the college's gallery to show photographs of still lifes . At the same time, F13 and ID2 at Konstfack are putting on an exhibition about narrative structures in design.

The second-year students in Product and Interior Design have during the autumn taken a course in narrative design together with the second-year students in Industrial Design at Konstfack (The University College of Arts and Crafts). Narrative design means that the story of an object can create an emotional bond to the owner which makes him or her keep it longer.

Marco Velardi, editor-in-chief of Apartamento Magazine, delivered the opening lecture of the course and talked about how they go about making their reports for the magazine. The magazine first came out three years ago and up until now 8 issues have been published. The magazine has become famous for their stories in which real homes are highlighted. Apartamento Magazines method to portray the homes is to simply move in with people whose homes they view. This way they can do in-depth interviews and shoot homes from a different perspective. Now Apartamento Magazine has been invited to the college's gallery to show still lifes that have been photographed and published during the three years of the magazine.

At the same time, the students are showing an exhibition about the different approaches to implement narrative structures in design. The exhibition consists of two parts: one interview per student where unknown people were interviewed in their homes about their objects, and one stool per student that has been designed based on a number of different theories as to why people have an emotional bond to their objects.

Course coordinators: Katja Pettersson, Senior Lecturer Product and Interior Design, and Dennis Dahlqvist, Senior Lecturer.
