2019 - by Beckmans

28 Maj, 2009 | Sofia Hulting | 0 Comments

The second-year students in Product Design have designed a collection of spectacles in collaboration with Synoptik.

The twelve students have worked in pairs and designed a pair of spectacles for each other but with the year 2019 as a starting-point. The person's lifestyle and looks in ten years from now has thereby formed the basis of design and material. With this in mind, some of the students have developed a concept while others have designed a spectacle frame. Synoptik have produced prototypes of all frames and they are now exhibited at the department store PUB in Stockholm.

A jury consisting of Agnes af Geijerstam, fashion journalist, Atsuko Hamanaka, designer, Hans Gustafsson, spectacle designer at Ego Eyewear, and Roland Olsson, managing director of Synoptik, has chosen the three most interesting spectacle frames. Petra Eriksson's frame "You" won first prize. The motivation of the jury reads: "Exciting technology, soft picture screens and new materials currently only available within research, hide behind the corner. Perhaps the spectacles of the future don't have cut glass but instead computer-controlled screens that read and correct visual defects. These frames are the most unconventional and open to many exciting meetings between technology and design. The connection to Venice and decorated masks give the frames an additional dimension and may become a source of future creations."

Josefin Hellström Olsson was chosen as second runner-up with her frames "One single thread" which make you think of silver smithery and chrochets. Third runner-up was Fredrik Ohlén who has combined futuristic design with Greek mythology in his frame "Polyfemos".

The exhibition with the students' spectacles is open to the public between 29 May-7 June at PUB, floor 03, during the opening hours of the department store.
