Det finns olika sätt att förhålla sig till mode. Ett sätt är att använda
mode som ett redskap för att komma till uttryck som person.
Ett annat är att låta kläderna kommunicera ett mer allmängiltigt
budskap och på så vis berätta mindre om sig själv. att kommuni-
cera genom mode behöver inte alltid innebära att kläderna stärker
individualiteten. Många väljer att visa en tillhörighet snarare än ett
personligt uttryck genom sättet att klä sig. Det finns otaliga exempel
på plagg som är kodade, plagg som vi genast läser in egenskaper i,
och vi kategoriserar de människor som bär dem. Modemedveten eller
inte, uppseendeväckande eller diskret, dold bakom den kodade ytan
blir man än mer anonym.

There are many ways of relating to fashion. One is to use fashion as
a means of expressing oneself as a person. another is to allow the
clothes to communicate a more universal message and thus say less
about oneself. to communicate through fashion does not always
necessarily mean that the clothes enhance individuality. Many
choose to demonstrate belonging rather than a personal tone in
the way they dress. there are countless examples of clothes that are
coded, clothes that we immediately invest with characteristics, and
we pigeonhole the people who wear them. Fashion conscious or not,
eye-catching or discrete, behind the coded surface we become even
more anonymous.
