Art

Beckmans College of Design is firmly rooted in an artistic foundation.

Understanding the artistic tools and developing artistic methods and processes are part of what we teach in our Art classes, which are included in all the study programmes at Beckmans.

Designers, regardless of specialisation, need to be able to move "freely" in the creative span, and to understand their own work, expression and notions, as well as those of others. They need tools to communicate visually with others and with themselves. They need to trust and understand their own artistic process.

Our Art classes include drawing, colour, photography, animation, three-dimensional and spatial design, visual communication, and the exploration of various methods and processes. The classes are usually structured as one- to three-week projects aimed at studying different aesthetic issues, such as urbanity, materials, the self, the body, identity, gender or current topics. We frequently invite artists as tutors/teachers and critics, in order to broaden the artistic perspective. It is natural that we relate the art projects to contemporary artistic oeuvres and current exhibitions, to promote discussion and awareness about contemporary art.

Head teachers: Thomas Magnusson and Mia Vendel
