About the project
The novel Staden (The City) was written by Anna Branting (an author, married to Hjalmar Branting) in 1901. Hiding behind what might be called a marital failure is that which makes Staden truly unique: the insight that Anna Branting provides into turn-of-the-century Stockholm and its public spaces. She describes everyday conversations and situations, friends meeting at various cafes and establishments and speaking about Stockholm. What is singular about Staden is that it is told from a woman’s perspective. My wish is to enhance the novel’s topicality. Therefore, I have created a book design that will help foster a new reading of the work, one based on the locations where the story takes place.
